Geely, Fangchengbao, and Jetour Introduce New Boxy SUVs: Which One Stands Out?

With the rising popularity of boxy SUVs, automakers are racing to introduce their own interpretations of the trend. Notable entries include Fangchengbao's Leopard 5/8, Changan Deep Blue's G318, Great Wall Haval's new Dragon series, and BAIC's BJ40 Extended Range. Now, heading into the latter half of 2025, brands like Geely, Fangchengbao, and Jetour are preparing to launch their latest boxy SUVs. Which one captures your attention? Let’s take a closer look at these upcoming models.

1. Geely Galaxy Warship

Key Features: Tech-forward hardcore SUV with AI-powered intelligent AWD

The Geely Galaxy Warship is positioned as a tech-centric hardcore SUV. Inside, it boasts a fully digital instrument cluster, a large central touchscreen, wireless smartphone charging, a flight-inspired gear shifter, and a co-pilot display. The co-pilot screen provides data like vehicle orientation, altitude, and terrain information, making it ideal for professional off-road navigation. The central screen, meanwhile, shows off-road parameters such as wind direction, altitude, temperature, and water source distance.

Notably, the Galaxy Warship is equipped with an oxygen generation system to mitigate altitude sickness during high-altitude expeditions. Its rugged design is complemented by features like a rear-mounted "backpack," side ladders, and a versatile roof platform. On the technical side, the SUV is powered by Geely's in-house GVMC dynamic control system, enabling it to pass an 80 km/h elk test and offering features like crab-walking, zero-radius turns, run-flat capabilities, and obstacle avoidance.

The SUV is built for extreme conditions, with a water-fording depth of 800 mm and advanced AEB that supports emergency braking at speeds up to 130 km/h. Additionally, it features satellite communication for uninterrupted connectivity in remote areas. The "All-Terrain AI" system allows the Galaxy Warship to adapt intelligently to diverse terrains such as plains, mountains, and water. It also supports multiple power modes, including pure electric, hybrid, and range-extender. If priced competitively, the Galaxy Warship could become a major hit in the market.

2. BYD Fangchengbao Titanium 7

Key Features: Mid-to-large plug-in hybrid SUV with unibody construction

The Titanium 7, the fourth model from BYD's Fangchengbao brand, follows the Leopard 5, Leopard 8, and Titanium 3. Set to launch in Q4 this year, the Titanium 7 features a bold and rugged design, resembling a stretched version of the Leopard 5. However, its unibody construction suggests that its off-road capabilities may not be as robust as body-on-frame rivals.

Measuring 4,999 mm in length, 1,995 mm in width, and 1,865 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,920 mm, the Titanium 7 adopts a five-seat layout and weighs 2,257 kg. Its approach and departure angles of 24° and 25°, respectively, align with mainstream standards for boxy SUVs.

Under the hood, the Titanium 7 is powered by a 1.5T engine paired with an electric motor in a plug-in hybrid system, delivering 115 kW from the engine and 200 kW from the electric motor. It features a lithium iron phosphate battery and is expected to utilize electric all-wheel drive. Based on the Leopard 5's performance on unpaved roads, the Titanium 7 is likely to perform well, depending on its final pricing, which could hover around $27,860.

3. Chery Jetour Traveler G700

Key Features: All-terrain luxury SUV with body-on-frame construction and triple differential locks

Chery's Jetour Traveler G700 is a hardcore off-road SUV built on a body-on-frame platform with triple differential locks. It is available in five-seat and six-seat configurations and integrates Jetour's advanced Kunpeng Intelligent Driving System to meet consumers' demands for rugged boxy aesthetics, superior seating comfort, and high-tech intelligent driving features. The G700 is slated for a Q3 launch.

Design-wise, the G700 offers two front-end styles: a blacked-out grille with horizontal LED light bars and a glowing logo for a tech-savvy look, or a "JETOUR" badged grille paired with rectangular headlights and a rugged bumper for a more traditional off-road vibe.

With dimensions of 5,198 mm in length, 2,050 mm in width, and 1,936 mm in height, plus a wheelbase of 3,100 mm, the G700 is larger than the Fangchengbao Leopard 8. Its side-hinged tailgate with a mounted spare tire, rugged rear bumper, and dual tow hooks enhance its outdoor appeal. The SUV also supports towing, further expanding its versatility.

Inside, the cabin is adorned with angular lines and riveted finishes to emphasize its rugged ethos. High-tech features include a floating central touchscreen, a heads-up display, a flat-bottom multi-function steering wheel, ambient lighting, wireless charging, and a "queen's seat" with an extendable leg rest.

Powered by Chery’s Kunpeng Super Hybrid CDM-O system, it combines a 2.0T engine with dual electric motors, delivering a total system output of 560 kW (761 hp) and a 0–100 km/h time of 4.6 seconds. Its CATL 800V 4C dual-layer battery charges from 20% to 80% in just 10 minutes.

Off-road capabilities include a body-on-frame design, triple differential locks, intelligent terrain modes, low-range gearing, air suspension, and CDC damping. It also offers unique features like in-place turning and extended water navigation capabilities, surpassing the BYD Yangwang U8's emergency floating function.
