BMW i3/iM3: Specifications and Production Plans Revealed, Launch Expected in 2026

Recent information has surfaced regarding the upcoming BMW i3 and iM3 models, shedding light on their specifications and production schedule. The BMW iM3 is expected to feature a quad-motor setup, delivering over 700 horsepower. Its interior is set to utilize BMW's newly developed natural fiber composite materials, offering an innovative and sustainable design. Production of the iM3 is slated to begin in March 2027 and continue through October 2034. Meanwhile, the all-new BMW i3 is scheduled to enter production in July 2026, with a planned seven-year production cycle ending in October 2034.

Reports suggest that BMW is considering multiple versions of the i3, including the i3 20, 40, 40 xDrive, 50, 50 xDrive, and M60 xDrive. The M60 model is expected to debut in March 2027.
Unlike the current gasoline-powered M3, which comes in various versions, the iM3 will likely be offered as a single variant. It will also be one of BMW’s first mass-produced vehicles to incorporate the new natural fiber materials. These materials, developed in collaboration with a Swiss company using flax fibers, are designed to rival the strength of carbon fiber while reducing CO2 emissions during manufacturing by 40%. The iM3’s interior may feature these materials in bucket seats and other components.
Details about the iM3’s powertrain remain under wraps and are expected to be revealed just months before its official launch. Speculation suggests it might be equipped with up to four electric motors, enabling advanced torque vectoring capabilities.
